Tequila Sunrise Jello Shot Recipe

🌴 I make quite a few jello shots for a variety of reasons. This one has me dreaming of white sand and ocean waves.

Similar to the cocktail, the Tequila Sunrise Jello Shot is layered. So, it is a bit more time intensive to make. But, it’s just as simple as a single layer shot.

Tequila Sunrise Jello Shot Recipe How To

WHAT YOU NEED

• 12 – 4oz cups
• Maraschino Cherries

LAYER 1
• 2 1/4 cups Water
• 1 – 6oz box Orange Jello
• 3/4 cup Tequila
• 1/4 cup Orange Liqueur

LAYER 2
• 1 1/2 cups Water
• 1 – 3oz box Cherry Jello
• 1/4 cup Grenadine

WHAT TO DO

LAYER 1

[1] boil WATER
Pour water into saucepan. Place on stove over high heat. Bring to boil.

[2] add ORANGE JELLO
Once the water is boiling, turn off the heat and pour in contents from jello packet.

[3] STIR until dissolved
Using a fork or whisk, stir jello until it is dissolved – usually about a minute.

[4] add TEQUILA
Let cool slightly, then pour tequila into jello mixture.

[5] add ORANGE LIQUEUR
Next, add orange liqueur

[6] POUR into cups
Pour mixture into cups, filling about 3/4 full.
If I am bringing the jello to an event, I use 4oz plastic cups with lids. If I’m hosting the event I use reusable silicone cupcake liners.

[7] REFRIGERATE until firm
Place jello shots in the fridge until jello is firm – about 2 hours.

Wait about 2 hours, then start making 2nd layer

LAYER 2

[1] boil WATER
Pour water into saucepan. Place on stove over high heat. Bring to boil.

[2] add CHERRY JELLO
Once the water is boiling, turn off the heat and pour in contents from the jello packet.

[3] STIR until dissolved
Using a fork or whisk, stir jello until it is dissolved – usually about a minute.

[4] add GRENADINE
Add grenadine to jello mix. Stir.

[5] POUR into cups
Pour mixture into cups partially filled with orange jello.

[6] REFRIGERATE until firm and ready to serve
Place jello shots in the fridge until they are firm and you are ready to serve.

[7] add CHERRY
The cherry can be added right before serving or right before the jello completely firms up, so it sinks just a bit into the jello.

RECIPE NOTES:

Instead of orange and cherry jello, feel free to use unflavored gelatin. The flavors then come strictly from your alcohol and syrup choices. This would work especially well with the cherry layer since the grenadine is only adding more cherry flavor to cherry flavored jello.

Also, I was taking creative liberties by having the orange layer on the bottom. In a tequila sunrise cocktail the red is on the bottom, with orange on top – more similar to an actual sunrise. It’s your jello, please make it however you feel in the moment.
