PVC Pipe Photo Backdrop Support
PVC Pipe Photo Backdrop Support
With so much variety in photo booths and photo backdrops, sometimes a different stand is needed than the typical photo backdrop support. This PVC pipe version requires a bit of DIY, but the possibilities in using it are endless.
Basic Backdrop Support
This support is easy to assemble and works well for the majority of backdrops.
SUPPLIES
- 2 – 3/4″ PVC Pipe, 78″ long
- 1 – 3/4″ PVC Pipe, 62-86″ long (depends on the width of your backdrop as this is the crossbar of the support)
- 4 – 3/4″ PVC Pipe, 18″ long (used for the footings)
- 2 – 3/4″ PVC Fitting: Tee
- 2 – 3/4″ PVC Fitting: Elbow
- 4 – 3/4″ PVC Fitting: Cap
- Pipe Cutter
ASSEMBLY
- Grab a tee and place an 18″ long pipe in each end of the fitting, so it creates a straight line. This is your footing.
- Repeat with the 2nd tee. You now have two footings.
- Place caps on the ends of each piece of exposed pipe on the two footings.
- Place 78″ long pipe in the empty slot of each tee.
- Place an elbow at the open ends of each 78″ long pipe.
- Position the 62-86″ long pipe in each elbow connecting the unit as one support.
- If you haven’t already, stand it up, so it’s standing on its two footings.
- To hang a backdrop, simply disconnect one end of the crossbar from an elbow, slide on the backdrop, and replace the pipe into the elbow.
- If needed, use sandbags to hold the support in place.
Square Backdrop Support
If your backdrop is heavy or you will be using it in a windy space, I suggest this support. It’s a little more time consuming to assemble, but it is more sturdy than the basic support.
SUPPLIES
- 4 – 3/4″ PVC Pipe, 78″ long
- 4 – 3/4″ PVC Pipe, 62-86″ long (depends on the width of your backdrop as these are the crossbars of the support)
- 4 – 3/4″ PVC Pipe, 18-24″ long (the longer, the better as this is what creates stability)
- 8 – 3/4″ PVC Fitting: 90 Degree Socket
- Pipe Cutter
ASSEMBLY
- Grab 2 90 degree fittings. Place a 62-86″ long piece of pipe between the two fittings.
- Repeat with 2 more 90 degree fittings. These are the top and bottom crossbars of the front of the support.
- You now have two pieces of pipe with fittings on each end. Lay them down horizontal with each other. Make sure an end of the fitting is pointing towards the other piece of pipe. Connect the two crossbars by placing a 78″ long piece of pipe into the fittings at each end.
- You now have a large square created from 4 pieces of pipe.
- Repeat steps 1-3. This will result in two large squares
- Connect these squares at the top and bottom with the 4 18-24″ long pieces.
- If you haven’t already, stand it up, so it is 78″ high.
- To hang a backdrop, disconnect one end of the top, front crossbar, slide on the backdrop, and replace the pipe into the fitting.
- You shouldn’t have to, but use sandbags to hold the support in place, if needed.
