Christmas with the Kranks Movie Night

The year is 2020 and much of our typical holiday activities have been cancelled. I am not thrilled, but it has allowed me to create some fun movie nights for our family at home.

The feature presentation for our first cozy movie night at home was Christmas with the Kranks. I just love this movie. It’s silly. It’s family and community oriented. And, I laugh a lot.

Our house was already decorated for Christmas and it was a small event, so I kept the themed goodies contained to one table.

Here’s how we enjoyed our evening with the Kranks:

To make the evening more of a special event than another movie at home, my kids were each given a movie ticket. The ticket is editable, so the movie and date can be customized.

BLAIR’S FAVORITE: CARAMEL CREAM PIE

Honey Ham would have been perfect if I was serving dinner with this movie. But, I wasn’t. So, I planned on Caramel Cream Pie. …I should have planned ahead.

The recipe I intended to use was simple, but required 6+ hours to make. I had about 1 hour ’til movie time. I found another recipe that was quick, but I was missing an ingredient. I did what I do – I winged it. I made caramels over the summer from my goat’s milk. I pulled them out of the freezer, melted them and added marshmallow creme, cream cheese, and evaporated milk. The pie was uber sweet and one of the ugliest desserts I have ever created, but we ate it and enjoyed it.

*Tip: Don’t do as I do. Plan ahead for a delicious pie.

MY FAVORITE: POPCORN

Thankfully popcorn is so easy and we eat a lot of it that it turned out as expected. For a festive touch to a typical treat, I printed RDS’s Merry & Bright Popcorn Box for each of us.
